Liberia – Diagnostic Centre

Liberia had an urgent need for high quality medical facilities. A Diagnostic Centre (DC) that offers complete medical diagnostic services to patients was an all-round solution for the Liberian healthcare system. The goal of the DC is to offer excellent and rapid healthcare to patients, but at an affordable price at the same time.

The Delft Approach

The Liberian Diagnostic Centre opened in Monrovia in 2018, supporting the need for better diagnosis in the country. The DC is the most modern Diagnostic Centre in Africa. It has the latest digital diagnostic and laboratory equipment including CT, X-ray, mammography, ultrasound, ECG and MRI. The MRI has a permanent magnet for very low power consumption compared to a traditional MRI, which makes it very cost efficient. Electricity generators guarantee a full back-up for the DC.

The staff consists of high skilled specialists, with reputable radiologists on site. On the same day the patient receives their examination and results from their doctor. With our PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) the patient files are safely stored for 10 years and reusable in other settings.

From the start Delft supported the owners of the DC with planning, financing, design and construction of the building, as well as the training of personnel, operational support and maintenance. The DC receives remote support from the Netherlands over the internet.
