Ghana – Diagnostic Centre

Ghana is a country with great emerging prosperity. Unfortunately, this also leads to long queues and waiting lists at many hospitals. To provide relief and support to hospitals and clinics in the area, a Diagnostic Centre (DC) that offers complete medical diagnostic services to patients was an all-round solution for the Ghanaian healthcare system. The goal of the DC is to offer excellent and rapid healthcare to patients, but at an affordable price at the same time.

The Delft Approach

Our first Diagnostic Centre is located in Accra, the capital of Ghana. This DC was incorporated in 2007 and opened in 2011. Diagnostic Centre Limited is a joint Ghanaian-European facility offering state of the art medical diagnostic services to patients from Ghana and West-Africa. Delft Imaging Systems was contracted as the integrator and supplier of the medical equipment and IT systems.

The DC is equipped with a CT scanner, MRI, X-ray room, ultrasound and mammography machine. The staff of 20 people consist of highly skilled specialists and are under the lead of Ghanaians foremost radiologist. There are no waiting lines at the clinic and patients receive their examination and report from their doctor on the same day. With our PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) the patient files are safely stored for 10 years and reusable in other settings.

From the start Delft supported the owners of the DC with planning, design and construction of the building. After the installation of the equipment we made sure that during the first months proper assistance was given for a hassle free operation.

Making an Impact

The DC performed 20,000 examinations in the second year and by 2014 this had increased to 35,000 paid examinations. This success has led to the DC even being open on Saturdays. Opening hours of the DC are from Monday to Saturday between 8:00am – 5:00pm.
